On Flexible Working Changes 6th April 2024
From 6th April 2024, flexible working laws changed for British Businesses. Employers should consider this as part of their stress risk assessment (more Stress Risk Assessments here).
What is Flexible working?
Flexible working adapts to different schedules and locations post-pandemic. It includes flexitime, part-time, annualised hours, compressed schedules, and term-time-only hours. Employees can work from home, a hybrid setup, or a hub location.
Starting April 6, 2024, employees can request flexible working from day one without needing six months of service. More changes will come with the new Employment Relations Act 2023 from the same date.
Key Changes:
employees will no longer have to explain what effect their requested change may have on the employer and how any that effect might be dealt with.
employees will now be entitled to make two requests (instead of one) in any 12-month period.
employers will not be able to refuse a request unless the employee has been consulted.
employers will have to make a decision in two months (reduced from three months), subject to agreeing a longer decision period.
